Mesh Complications

Women who have had mesh placed to fix gynecologic problems such as prolapse and incontinence may experience complications including pain, vaginal bleeding and discharge, as well as pain with intercourse.

What are Mesh Complications?

This can be caused by the surgical procedure itself or problems related to the mesh. Treatment may require removal of the mesh.

Mesh is considered a permanent material, and over time the body’s tissue grows into and around it. Your doctors at Urogynecology of Kansas City are trained and highly skilled at vaginal mesh removal. During surgery, mesh will be removed while avoiding damage to the tissue and surrounding organs. Recommendations for surgery depend on a patient’s anatomy and the type of mesh used in the original surgery. Subsequent surgery may be necessary to correct the original prolapse and/or other complications related to the mesh. Please contact our office to schedule a consultation with Urogynecology of Kansas City to discuss your specific symptoms and concerns.
