Prolapse

A prolapse occurs when surrounding organs or structures push into your vaginal canal, often causing urinary problems, bowel symptoms, and sexual dysfunction, among other issues. If you’re struggling with a prolapse, the physicians and advanced practitioners at Urogynecology of Kansas City, offers innovative treatment solutions. Find out more by booking a prolapse evaluation today.

Ideal Candidates for Prolapse Surgery

Healthy women experiencing a vaginal prolapse are ideal candidates for prolapse surgery. Prolapse surgery is appropriate for women who have a moderate to severe prolapse; women with stage II, III, and IV prolapse are recommended to undergo prolapse surgery. Women who want to correct their prolapse and the issues that come with it are excellent candidates for prolapse surgery.

Women with a pelvic prolapse who have not gotten ideal results from non-surgical therapies like pelvic floor exercises and pessaries should consider having prolapse surgery. Candidates should be willing to commit to a full recovery process for safe and optimal results.

Prolapse surgery is not recommended to patients who have mild prolapse conditions (stage 0 and I). Women who are pregnant or planning to have children should not undergo prolapse surgery. Patients who have a severe illness, infection, or a pre-existing medical condition that could increase the risk of complications are not ideal candidates.

Your Prolapse Surgery Consultation

During your consultation, you will disclose your experience dealing with the symptoms of prolapse to your doctor. The two of you will discuss your medical records, including past treatments and medications, especially those related to the condition.

Your doctor will conduct a comprehensive physical examination to determine the extent of your prolapse. He will then recommend the appropriate treatment option.

If your condition requires surgery, your doctor will create a treatment plan to correct your prolapse. He will provide you with instructions to prepare for the prolapse surgery. You can ask any questions you may have during the consultation, and your doctor will be happy to address any concerns.

Non-Surgical Prolapse Treatments

Our conservative management treatments are non-surgical in nature. They are the first options considered for minor to moderate prolapse conditions. Our patients can choose among these non-surgical treatments:

Surgical Prolapse Treatment Options

We recommend surgical management treatments to patients who are not achieving effective results from conservative treatments. We recommend either of these two prolapse surgical procedures depending on the condition of the patient:

What to Expect During Surgery

Prolapse surgery can last between 30 minutes and four hours depending on the type of surgery and the details of the surgical plan. General anesthesia will be administered to prepare the patient for surgery. The chosen surgery will then be performed, and the patient will stay in the facility until their condition is stable, at which point they will be released.

Prolapse Surgery Recovery

The recovery period after prolapse surgery will depend on the type of surgery performed. Regardless of the type, the patient will have to undergo several weeks of recovery and healing. The patient may experience pain, cramping, or pressure in the pelvic area for a few weeks.

During the recovery period, physical activities like sexual intercourse will be prohibited. Running, aerobics, weightlifting, and other high-intensity exercises must be avoided. The patient will be given prescriptions and recovery instructions to aid in the healing process.

Follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor recovery and evaluate the results of prolapse surgery.

Prolapse Surgery Cost

The treatment plan for the prolapse surgery will determine the cost of the procedure. The type of prolapse surgery that is performed will impact the overall price of the surgery. You must contact your insurance provider to find out if they will cover the cost of your prolapse procedure.

Dr. Nosti is great! I felt very confident in his work. He has done 2 procedures for me and both have gone so smooth. He tells you what to expect and has a plan for those things. I would refer him to anyone having gynecological issues that they need surgery for. Thanks Dr. Nosti!!

As a Provider in the region I self referred to Dr. Nosti for female pelvic organ prolapse and stress incontinence. From the time I walked in the door for my initial consult to my post-op surgical follow up the process has been seamless. Any hiccups were anticipated and a plan was in place prior. I’ve been nothing but happy with this process and my results.

This place was amazing, I was treated kindly and softly, everything explained to me as we went, my options and things to help till my next appointment. The office itself is soft, clean, and quiet to help you feel more relaxed in an uncomfortable situation. Everyone was very friendly and respectful. I highly recommend this office. Dr Stork was very friendly, took her time, explained everything and presented my options, pros and cons for each and let me make the choice. She was light-hearted and helped me feel at ease.

I have dealt with IC and bladder pain for the last 3 years. Went to a urologist for years and tried anything he threw at me but after years of suffering and plenty of my own research (spiraling), I found Latasha online. She is the first provider that made me feel seen and heard and actually helped me feel better. Thank you, Latasha! ❤️

Dr. Nosti and LaTasha are excellent practitioners. They are a busy practice but always have time to make you feel like you're the only patient. (I wouldn't recommend a practice that isn't busy... if it's not, the practitioners aren't any good). The staff is excellent, too. I'm a bit of an expert when judging urologists... I'm in my 50's and was born with a bladder condition. Needless to say, I've seen many urologists since childhood (I move around a lot).
